Do you ever wonder about how your banana from Whole Foods was produced? Find yourself pondering how sustainability, conservation, and agriculture can be compatible with the global food system? Maybe even the sociocultural dynamics involved?

Great—us too! Join us as we navigate these topics and others on a 2-week travel course in Costa Rica.

This blog follows Chatham University’s first global agriculture class from the Falk School of Sustainability as they travel to EARTH University in Costa Rica and become immersed in how the country’s approach to sustainable development, environmental conservation, and tropical agriculture intersects with the global food system.

Follow us as we chronicle our experiences while living and working on smallholder Costa Rican farms, learn about the challenges of running a university-run organic banana plantation that supplies Whole Foods, explore local marketplaces, and interview people that we meet during the travel course.
